This report documents available information on the history of the Appomattox Court House Building. The historical survey was necessary because the original Court House building burned in 1892, destroying the structure and nearly all of the county records. In the absence of this evidence, investigations and interviews were conducted and available records were examined in order to obtain a more complete history of the structure. This study was performed so that the planned restoration of the Court House could be an authentic reproduction of the original building. The narrative addresses development and historic function of the Court Court, as well as specific elements of the structure. It is divided by headings as identified in the Table of Contents.
