The Kelly House was built in 1855 by Lorenzo D. Kelly, who died seven years later. The property was sold in 1871 to Mr. Robinson, a shoemaker, who lived there with his family until his death in 1933. The property became part of the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park in 1939, as a donation from the Virginia Conservation Commission. The house was in poor condition at that point. Stabilization was begun in 1942 as a Civilian Conservation Corps project and completed by park personnel. The architectural data provided in this section supplies documentation for the reconstruction of the structure (exterior only), completed in 1960. Following the approval of the Part I section of the Historic Structures Report, architectural drawings for the Kelly House were prepared and are also included in this report.
