Reconstruction work on the exterior of the Kelly House was completed in March 1960. The Well House, fences, and walks were contemplated as an exterior exhibit to contribute to the visual interpretation of the Kelly House grounds. Reconstruction of these features was approved for 1963. This report complements the completion report written for the Kelly House in March 1960. Information about the existence of the well and the well house came from interviews with Lucy Stevens of Appomattox, who was born in the Kelly House ca. 1877 and lived there until she was about 18 years of age. Additional information for the reconstruction was supplied by investigations of other nineteenth century well houses and an excavation of the well pit (which was not part of the reconstruction). The report includes photographs, a working drawing, and project specifications.
