The Ice House is one of three outbuildings for the McLean House that was programmed for reconstruction in 1964. Additional historical background for the outbuildings is included in the Historical Data Section as a separate document. It is suggested that the Ice House coexisted with the McLean House Kitchen and Slave Quarters, and use of the structure likely had a direct relationship to the operation of the Raine Tavern that was constructed in 1848. The site of the Ice House was partially excavated in 1962. Additional evidence is supplied by historic photographs. The report provides architectural recommendations for the reconstruction of the McLean Ice House.
