This report deals primarily with architectural data of a historical nature pertaining to the Tavern Guest House (No. 4-B) at Appomattox Court House National Historical Park. It is, in part, a summation of the work of the 1956 Student Measuring Team. The group made physical investigations of the building, compared similar structures, and searched for pertinent documentary material. The Tavern Guest House is part of the Clover Hill tavern stand. The report presents the history of the structure's ownership, use, and alterations, beginning when Alexander and Lilbourn Patteson purchased the property in 1814. As noted in this document, the NPS proposed an exterior restoration of the structure to its 1865 appearance. The first floor interior would be serviceable as a display area, and the second floor was to be converted into sleeping quarters for seasonal employee housing.
