This Historic Structures Preservation Guide (HSPG) is intended for use by the maintenance staff and cultural resources management staff of Bandelier National Park (spelled "Bandalier" throughout this report), specifically for use on the buildings constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the administration and residential areas in the lower Canyon de los Frijoles, plus the entrance station and the fire lookout tower. It provides a way to evaluate maintenance activities and adopt appropriate corrective measures. An HSPG has three sections: general instructions, technical instructions, and reference material. The section contained in this document, Volume 1, contains the general instructions and schedules for inspecting the buildings and organizing work. It was intended that this be a working document, actively used by park maintenance staff and amended as necessary. The Historic Structures Preservation Guide is a "special resource plan" that directs preservation maintenance activities on specific historic and prehistoric structures once they are in a maintainable condition. It is a reference for programming, housekeeping, routine and cyclic preservation maintenance for park maintenance personnel. It provides the specific and necessary information for appropriate inspection and maintenance.
