"Final Stabilization" at Eight Prehistoric Sites in the Salt Creek Archeological District, Canyonlands National Park, Southeastern Utah

Firor J. 1988. "Final Stabilization" at Eight Prehistoric Sites in the Salt Creek Archeological District, Canyonlands National Park, Southeastern Utah. Historic Structure Report. Nickens and Associates. Montrose, Colorado

In the fall of 1987, as part of the year 4 stabilization activities in Canyonlands National Park, "final stabilization" was performed on eight sites in the Salt Creek Archeological District. As with other work performed during the multi-year stabilization project in Canyonlands National Park, the major objective of this project was the continued preservation of selected sites and the archaeological data contained therein. The specific purpose of the "final" stabilization work was to repair natural and visitor-caused deterioration observed since the initial comprehensive stabilization, and to leave those sites in stable condition at the end of the multi-year stabilization contract. As a result of this work at the eight sites, maintenance tasks were completed on 30 structures. The sites were all stabilized between 1983 and 1985. The 1987 maintenance work followed a ruins stabilization monitoring course for NPS personnel conducted by Nickens and Associates stabilization crew in Canyonlands National Park. The maintenance work is described in this report, with recommendations for monitoring.
