This Historic Structure Survey for the Broad Run Trunk of the C & O Canal contains the administrative and historic data sections, along with drawings and photographs of the structure. The report recommends that the Broad Run Trunk be restored to the period 1851, because that is the only detailed description of the structure that has been preserved. The reconstruction will illustrate a stage in the Canal Company's development and the methods used for the repair and maintenance of the Canal System. The structure that spans Broad Run is the only one of its type on the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal that is constructed of wood, both a challenge and a reason for its restoration and interpretation. The trunk and the culvert that preceded it served to carry the line of the canal over Broad Run.
