This Part II Historic Structures Report provides additional information to the Part I report on the Abner Cloud House in preparation for the proposed restoration. The Abner Cloud House is the oldest original building on the right-of-way of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal. The water used in its millrace came from the Little Falls Skirting Canal of the earlier Potowmack Canal Company, with which George Washington was closely associated, and its flour milling operations were a feature of the early history of Georgetown. The report describes the history of the structure, interior and exterior features, and alterations. Measured drawings, photographs (exterior and interior), and correspondence related to the restoration of the structure are included. As noted in the attached Project Construction Proposal, it is proposed that the structure will be used as a 2-unit employee residential apartment and a basement museum. The halls and stairs would remain as built, toilets and a kitchen would be added to prepare it for occupancy, and the exterior would be repaired to match the building's appearance in 1926.
