This report provides administrative, historical, and project information for stabilization work on the Fifteen Mile Creek Aqueduct (Aqueduct 9) of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park. The structure is located fifteen miles west of Hancock, Maryland (Milepost 140.8) and was of historic significance during the operation of the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal (1850-1924). It is regionally significant for architectural design and contributes to the national significance of the canal. The primary aspects of the proposed treatment work included stabilization of the structure by replacing soils over the arch, replacing missing stones, and repointing masonry. The report describes the development and physical features of the aqueduct, a single span arch of 50 feet, and existing conditions, including the findings of the 1974 structural and hydraulic analyses. The program of stabilization work for the aqueduct is also included.
