This report contains the administrative and historical data for the Steeple Building in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Steeple Building, located in Christiansted, St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands (at that time part of the Virgin Islands National Historic Site) was originally built between 1750 and 1753 as the Danish Lutheran "Church of the Lord of Sabaoth." It ceased to be used as a church after 1831 and was subsequently altered or modified for other uses, but a large part of the church building remained standing and intact. The purpose of this report is to create a picture of the church as it appeared from 1750 to 1831 and to determine what alterations or modifications were made after that time. The report provides a description of the structure and its immediate surroundings, the historical context of the structure, and uses. It covers the general history and construction and the specific features of the structure, interior and exterior. The report includes illustrations, plans of Christiansted, and photographs. It was proposed to let the St. Croix Museum, Inc., which is incorporated under the laws of the Virgin Islands as a non-profit educational institution, occupy and use the Steeple Building as a public museum.
