This is the third in a series of reports for the Steeple Building. The report contains: 1) an account of the fabric of the building, 2) description of the results from excavating the ground under and about the main building, 3) an extensive set of record photographs by the writer, and 4) reproduction of the restoration working drawings PROPOSED RESTORATION OF THE STEEPLE BUILDING. It is intended to explain and justify all features proposed in the restoration drawings. The Steeple Building is located in Christiansted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands. It contains the remains of the former Lutheran church that was the first church to be erected by the Danes after their colonization of St. Croix in 1734. The document provides a historical overview, summary of the physical history of the structure, and description of the investigation of the building. Architectural and archeological investigation was performed during the fall of 1956 and summer of 1957. It was recommended that the Steeple Building be restored to the period of 1800. By that date it had reached its greatest physical development and still served as a church for the Danish Lutheran congregation. Specifics of the work are defined, accompanied by cost estimates, photographs, and measured drawings.
