A Construction History of the Custom House – Sub-Treasury Building

Torres L and Osborn G. 1960. A Construction History of the Custom House – Sub-Treasury Building. Historic Structure Report. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service. New York City, New York

This report details the construction and various uses of the Custom House – Sub-Treasury Building at Federal Hall National Memorial. It serves to inform any future restoration and development of the building. The subject matter of this study extends over a wide period, but its focal point is the year 1842 when the Custom House was completed. While the study is chiefly concerned with the construction of the Custom House, the later history of the building has also been traced. Physical changes made during its long service as the New York Sub-Treasury have been noted.
