Originally established as a private fur trading fort in 1834, Fort Laramie evolved into the largest and best known military post on the Northern Plains before its abandonment in 1890. This “grand old post” witnessed the entire sweeping saga of America’s western expansion and Indian resistance to encroachment on their territories. This report summarizes the restoration and rehabilitation efforts made on Old Bedlam (Building no. 1 of Fort Laramie National Historic Site) during the period of April 12, 1961 – June 23, 1962. The report consists of various progress reports made over the course of the period, detailing expenses, priorities, and documenting the work done through photographs.
