Originally established as a private fur trading fort in 1834, Fort Laramie evolved into the largest and best known military post on the Northern Plains before its abandonment in 1890. This “grand old post” witnessed the entire sweeping saga of America’s western expansion and Indian resistance to encroachment on their territories. This report details plans to restore and stabilize Building No. 6, Officers' Quarters E, at Fort Laramie. Originally constructed in 1874, the building is to be furnished as Post Surgeon's Quarters of 1880 and one unit is to remain empty. The building will bear use loads over a continued period as a furnished historic house.
