The Jackson Shrine is located in present day Caroline County near Guinea, Virginia, some nine miles south of Fredericksburg. The building represents a modest structure of the early nineteenth century; a product of rural imagination. It was in this story-and-a-half gabled structure that Confederate General "Stonewall" Jackson died in 1863. This Historic Structures Report provides the information necessary to begin restoring the Jackson Shrine to its 1863 appearance. The report calls for extensive work, including the demolition of new architectural features, removal of "Insulex" fireproofing, various masonry projects, weatherproofing, replacement of windows and shutters, among others.
