The Grand Canyon Village Historic District contains 57 housing units owned and operated by the National Park Service. Fifty-three of these units are on the list of classified structures and all 53 are under management category B - structures that should be preserved and maintained. The purpose of this document is to satisfy historic preservation compliance requirements for all future lead abatement and rehabilitation work within the Grand Canyon Village Historic District. This document is also intended to increase awareness of the district as a cultural landscape. The document contains background information, a brief history of the district, an analysis of existing conditions, and statements of the district's significance and integrity. The document then provides specific recommendations which outline and illustrate our approach to abatement, rehabilitation, removal and replacement, and treatment of the cultural landscape. In addition to fulfilling the requirements of the Programmatic Agreement this document will provide a basis for the preparation of construction documents, and be used by park staff to help manage and plan future development within the historic district.
