A Guam Historic Properties Inventory Data Form for the Herrera House. Description: "The Herrera House is a two-story residence occupying a central lot in Agat near Mt. Carmel Church and School. The house was built by Juan Lujan Anderson around 1953 and then later sold to Antonio and Ana H. Herrera (possibly in the late 1950s). The house is still owned by the Herrera family." Statement of Significance: "The Herrera House has been described by the homeowner and local residents as the first all-concrete house in Agat. The building features a number of interesting contrasts in wall materials and textures which interplay with the surrounding vegetation. These elements suggest Contemporary design influences that resonated in the United States during the post-World War II period. The residence also represents the massing typical of post-World War II duplex house type on Guam, here reinterpreted in concrete instead of wood-siding and corrugated metal roofing. Given its rarity and exception design features, and its role in marking the start of Guam's transition to concrete, typhoon-resistant residential construction, the Herrera House is significant under NRHP Criterion C. The period of significance is the early 1950s, when the house was constructed."
