Yosemite National Park is an American national park located in the western Sierra Nevada of Central California, bounded on the southeast by Sierra National Forest and on the northwest by Stanislaus National Forest. This document is a reprint of the 1865 preliminary report by Frederick Law Olmsted concerning the Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa trees therein. Written just sixteen years after initial European American discovery of Yosemite, the report gives an overview of the area and proposes future management and development policies.
