Yosemite National Park is an American national park located in the western Sierra Nevada of Central California, bounded on the southeast by Sierra National Forest and on the northwest by Stanislaus National Forest. This Cultural Landscape Report concerns the Yosemite Village Historic District Housing. The Yosemite Village housing area was planned during the late 1910s. Location and construction of the residences took place between 1918 and 1956, with primary development occurring in the 1920s and '30s. The village housing area was situated inconspicuously among a black oak woodland, the plan calling for curvilinear streets, rustic-style buildings and naturalistic landscaping. The village plan exemplified the landscape design principles of the National Park Service as they developed in the 1910s and evolved during the 1920s and '30s.
