Historic Grounds Report, Volume II, Archeological Data Section: Lindenwald, Martin Van Buren National Historic Site
Simon BG and Rubertone PE. 1982. Historic Grounds Report, Volume II, Archeological Data Section: Lindenwald, Martin Van Buren National Historic Site. Historic Grounds Report. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service. North Atlantic Regional Office
The archeological field study of the Martin Van Buren Historic Grounds Survey was aimed at contributing to the National Park Service's knowledge of the building sequence and grounds evolution at Lindenwald. The survey provided a mechanism for investigating and interpreting anomalies identified through a separate study of the project area by the Remote Sensing Division. The results of the archeological survey are presented in this Historic Grounds Report. It is organized into two major sections: 1) a description of the data collection and analytical procedures, and 2) a description of the results. The Martin Van Buren National Historic Site preserves the Lindenwald estate and thirty-six room mansion of Martin Van Buren, the eighth President of the United States. Van Buren purchased the estate during his presidency in 1839, and it became his home and farm from his leaving office in 1841 until his death in 1862.
