Summary of Achievements: "The Bureau of Cultural and Historical Preservation/Historic Preservation Office is very fortunate to have given such a Special Project by the US National Park Service to upgrade its Survey and Inventory/Archaeology Section equipments as well as provide opportunities for Training of the Section staff. During the Phase I of the Historic Properties Inventory System Assessment Project that was conducted by an independent contractor to review and assess the capacity and effectiveness of the BCHP regarding the historic properties inventory if it meets the Secretary of the Interior Standards had led to this Phase II which is the implementation of what was recommended from Phase I...." Purpose: "The purpose of the Palau Historic Properties Inventory System Assessment Phase II is to enhance the existing capabilities of the site inventory at the Palau HPO by adopting the new and updated mechanism in GIS management and use. In the age of highly advanced technology available, the site inventory data can incorporate more digital information which will be built upon the existing data successfully accumulated over the years at Palau HPO." Project funding was provided in part by a Historic Preservation Fund grant to the Palau Historic Preservation Office, Bureau of Cultural and Historical Preservation, Ministry of Community and Cultural Affairs, administered by the Pacific West Regional Office, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior (grant number 70-13-51964).
