Overview: "The Story Project targeted two aims: 1) to help students at the College of the Marshall Islands understand and collect Marshallese stories and 2) to preserve these stories on a dedicated website. Both of these aims were fulfilled. Other expectation included teaching CMI students how to build a website that could be used for cultural preservation and taking CMI students into the field to collect Marshallese stories. These expectations were also fulfilled. As this was a pilot project, flexibility in program design was of the utmost importance, and in fact Dr. Tanner had to make some changes to accommodate exigencies but not as many as he anticipated. Although there were some impediments to the Project, it went remarkably smoothly. Project Investigator Wilson Hess was most cooperative in facilitating Dr. Tanner's work and Newton Lajuna, the Project's cultural liaison, was indefatigable and invaluable in making the project a success." Project funding was provided in part by a Historic Preservation Fund grant to the Marshall Islands State Historic Preservation Office, Ministry of Internal Affairs, administered by the Pacific West Regional Office, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
