This paint analysis was performed to determine the original exterior color of the Lynch & Kennedy Dry Goods Building located in Skagway, Alaska, part of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, for the purpose of recommending colors for repainting. Exhibit Specialist Peter Bathurst and Historical Architect Thomas Busch sent 34 samples to the North Atlantic Historic Preservation Center, where the samples were assessed. Additional samples were taken from an adjacent warehouse building. An early photograph of the building that was provided along with the samples was also useful in determining the painting scheme, showing the contrast of dark and light colors and areas that appear to be unpainted. The summary of this analysis led to recommendations for repainting to reflect the early appearance of the structure. A second report section is a paint analysis report for the front doors of the Lynch & Kennedy Dry Goods Building, intended to accompany the report on the building. The objectives of the analysis and procedures are identical to those discussed earlier.
