SOP 1.2.09 Fixed-station water-quality YSI EXO data sonde maintenance, calibration deployment and retrieval—Version 3.0

Starkey EN, McCay D, Gregory MB. 2022. SOP 1.2.09 Fixed-station water-quality YSI EXO data sonde maintenance, calibration deployment and retrieval—Version 3.0. Southeast Coast Network

The purpose of this standard operating procedure (SOP) is to standardize instrument handling, maintenance, calibration, deployment, and post deployment procedures for the Southeast Coast Network Inventory and Monitoring Program. Sonde deployment and retrievals are usually done in conjunction with water sample collection following procedures set forth in SOP 1.2.11 Fixed-station Water Sample Collection and Processing—Version 2.0 (McCay and Starkey 2022). This SOP does not replace the latest version of the sonde-specific manual. Thus, the user needs to be familiar with procedures in these manuals. This SOP was originally adapted from the National Estuarine Research Reserve’s (NERRS) System-Wide Monitoring Program (SWMP) Standard Operating Procedure (2011) and outlines procedures for deploying and retrieving sondes from fixed stations as well as other related subtasks. Previous versions of this SOP (v1.0, 2.0, 2.1) were used from 2007 to 2020 and were specific to YSI 6600 series sondes. Version 3.0 has been updated to clarify workflow and more thoroughly describe sonde calibration and deployment procedures specifically for YSI EXO sondes (YSI 2021).
