All across the United States, greenways are helping preserve or conserve national and cultural resources. In addition, they provide recreation opportunities, link residential and activity centers, provide alternate transportation, promote health, stimulate economic development opportunities, and provide educational opportunities. Users of the Rockaway Gateway Greenway will derive all of these benefits. The greenway will compliment New York City's greenway plan, enabling it to join other major cities in their provision of significant greenway resources to their residents and visitors.
