This SOP provides direction on conducting winter sampling focused on counting several species of bats which hibernate in caves. These censuses are used to assess abundance, infer population trends, and determine spatial distribution within winter caves for certain bat species within sampled sections. The methods in this SOP focus on biennial in-cave counts conducted by a small number of observers.
