The Mount McKinley National Park Road Historic District Cultural Landscape Report (referred to within this document as the Park Road Historic District CLR) provides Denali National Park and Preserve (DNPP) with a district development history, an assessment of the character-defining features of the cultural landscape and specific treatment recommendations to ensure the preservation of this significant historic resource while balancing contemporary use and management needs. At DNPP, increasing visitor use, ongoing and planned facility improvement projects and the deterioration of cultural landscapes due to age, environmental stresses, climate change and other factors are serious threats to the continued preservation of the Park Road cultural landscape. This CLR is needed to support informed planning for landscape stabilization, preservation, restoration and/ or rehabilitation. Treatment guidelines and recommendations for specific treatment projects and implementation strategies are identified and prioritized to ensure resource preservation while balancing the goals of historic preservation with contemporary park use and management concerns. The CLR will facilitate updates to the Denali Park Road Historic District Cultural Landscape Inventory (Park Road Historic District CLI) which will help the park improve the resource’s condition and address needs identified in the park’s Foundation Document.
