The Cumberland Piedmont Network Inventory and Monitoring Network began long-term monitoring of water quality at Little River Canyon National Preserve in fiscal year 2007 (October 2007 through September 2008). Sampling occurs monthly during two consecutive years, followed by five off years. Water quality is measured at 11 sites. Based on program requirements and specific park concerns, a set of parameters was chosen for long-term monitoring, including field measures of water temperature, specific conductance, pH, and dissolved oxygen. Samples undergo laboratory analysis at Little River Canyon National Preserve for Escherichia coli and turbidity. Samples are sent to the University of Tennessee-Knoxville Water Lab for analysis of Acid Neutralizing Capacity and nitrate. This brief summarizes data collected from October 1, 2020 through September 30, 2021 (FY21).
