Kingsley Plantation: Cultural Landscape Report, Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve, National Park Service

The purpose of the Cultural Landscape Report for Kingsley Plantation is to “provide the Park with an assessment of the character-defining features of the Kingsley Plantation cultural landscape” and to “develop specific treatment recommendations to ensure the preservation of this nationally significant resource.”1 Through the Cultural Landscape Report (CLR), information is provided to the National Park Service (NPS) for use in the future development of this property. The Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve Historic Resource Study and the 1997 General Management Plan with Development Concept Plans were used as guides in the development of this report. Numerous National Park Service publications served as reference sources as well as several examples of other cultural landscape reports. This document is organized into three sections. Part I includes a comprehensive Site History; a description of Existing Conditions; and an Analysis & Evaluation Section that assesses the existing site features of significance and also identifies missing elements important in the history of this property. Part II provides Treatment Recommendations following the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for cultural landscape projects. Part III, not completed as part of this work, will be added at the completion of any site improvements. Part III will include a Record of Treatment that explains how the Treatment Recommendations were implemented at the Kingsley Plantation site.
