Seven National Park Service units within the Northern Colorado Plateau Network (NCPN) determined the need to evaluate and map spring and wetland condition based on the presence/absence of perennial obligate and facultative wetland plant species known to occur in the parks. Mapping spring and wetland areas for each park provides a baseline measure of areas sensitive to drying that can be used to monitor change over time. The overall objective of the project was to establish a baseline for the area and condition of wetlands, seeps, and springs to provide supporting evidence for any future claims of impairment resulting from groundwater management actions.
