This property is the subject of a pending National Historic Landmark nomination update. The February 2024 draft of the updated National Historic Landmark documentation for Monocacy Battlefield will be considered by the Landmarks Committee of the National Park System Advisory Board (NPSAB) at its meeting on May 14-15, 2024. The Landmarks Committee will evaluate whether to advise the NPSAB to recommend that the Secretary of the Interior proceed with designation. The updated National Historic Landmark (NHL) documentation for Monocacy Battlefield in Frederick, Frederick County, Maryland documents its national significance under NHL Criterion 1 for its association with the Civil War Battle of Monocacy. The period of national significance is July 8-10, 1864, the dates of the battle.
