This study includes historic context essays on racial desegregation in public accommodations as it applied to African Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Asian Americans. Registration guidelines for evaluating potential NHLs and an inventory of properties identified as nationally significant in these contexts are included. This document was prepared by the NPS in cooperation with the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers and the Organization of American Historians. It was originally published in 2004 and revised in 2009.
