Potwisha Campground was originally constructed in 1925 and served as an early campground utilized by park visitors traveling via automobile and later the New Deal’s Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), undergoing later modifications and rehabilitation during the Mission 66 program. The campground is situated in the foothills of Ash Mountain along the Middle Fork of the Kaweah River, four miles north of the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks Ash Mountain Entrance Station. The site occupies the sloping east bank of the river within a grove of oak trees. The campground provides a total of 42 campsites, for tents and trailers, organized around three, one way loop roads. Two comfort stations, a trailhead, and access to the river are provided at the campground. Small-scale campsite furniture, such as tables, fire rings, and grills, are provided for each campsite. The property was determined eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
