Missouri Bladderpod (Physaria Filiformis) at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield: 2025 Status Report

The Missouri bladderpod (Physaria filiformis Rollins) is a threatened plant with ongoing conservation efforts at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield. Long-term bladderpod monitoring efforts provide valuable insights into its ecology and population status and help land managers make informed decisions. Annual monitoring in the park has expanded from one glade in 1997 to ten glades in 2025. Based on the 2025 population estimates, we found that nine of the glades supported continuing populations, while we did not detect plants at the tenth glade (Terrell Creek Glade). One glade matched its maximum population, while six glades had intermediate population sizes. Despite a prescribed fire at Wire Road Glade during the sensitive vegetative growth stage (December 2024), we observed a reduced population of plants.
