National Park Service (NPS) biologists conducted an aerial survey for loons over ten flying days from June 20, 2016 to June 29, 2016 in the Seward Peninsula and Cape Krusenstern area of Western Alaska. Biologists searched twenty-four 12km x 12km plots and observed 1183 loons of 6 species, 234 nesting pairs, 203 nests, 49 eggs in 806 observations. In terms of Yellow-billed loons, the primary loon of interest to the NPS, biologists observed 268 loons, 56 nesting pairs, 58 nests, 37 eggs in 190 observations.
