Fire effects monitoring data collected at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (SLBE) in Empire, MI. Data were collected during summer field seasons by the fire effects monitoring crews out from 2017 to present. Photographs are taken from the plot center to document change. Data are collected using variable and fixed radius plots as well as point intercept transects. Collected data include: tree inventory to obtain stem density and basal area; sapling, seedling & woody stem densities, and understory plant percent cover and frequency using 25m point intercept transects and 1m frequency squares. Fuel loading is not assessed.
