This Cultural Landscape Report (CLR) Part I for Pullman National Historical Park (park, NHP). The NHP, which includes property under the National Park Service (NPS), state, and private ownership, was originally designed in 1880 as a planned town supporting operations at the Pullman Palace Car Company and later became the site of profound labor conflict, culminating in the 1894 Pullman Strike and National Boycott. The Pullman neighborhood was designated the Pullman National Monument by President Obaba on February 19, 2015, and designated a National Historical Park by Congress and President Biden on December 29, 2022. The CLR Part I presents detailed documentation of Pullman National Historical Park's historical development, evaluation of existing conditions, analysis of landscape characteristics, and determination of contributing features. The intend of the CLR Part I is to provide comprehensive and integrated baseline documentation that reflects the mission of the NPS and will support future long-term stewardship of the NHP. It builds upon numerous studies, investigations, and documents that exist for the park, principally the 2019 Historic Resource Study of Pullman National Monument, Illinois (HRS).
