Missouri Bladderpod Monitoring Standard Operating Procedure 4, Version 2.0: Field Methods for Population Surveys
Leis S . 2026. Missouri Bladderpod Monitoring Standard Operating Procedure 4, Version 2.0: Field Methods for Population Surveys
This standard operating procedure (SOP) describes procedures for conducting Missouri bladderpod population surveys. Populations are estimated at 10 individual glades using a density class system. At Bloody Hill Glade, accuracy counts are used to improve our understanding of the actual population by proportionally adjusting the estimates, post-field operations (see SOP 7 Data Summary and Analysis). For density class estimation, 3–4 staff members are helpful for efficient operations. For Accuracy counting at Bloody Hill Glade, 3–5 staff are helpful (4 is ideal). Datasheets for each component of population surveys were included in the previous version of SOP 4, but have been moved to SOP 1, version 2.0: Preseason Preparation and Training. The order of field operations is 1. Bloody Hill Glade: Complete first step of accuracy count procedure by hand counting 60 randomly selected cells. 2. Bloody Hill Glade: Estimate density class in all target cells (477 core area cells every year, 963 entire grid cells every five years). 3. Bloody Hill Glade: Complete second step of accuracy count by hand counting additional subjectively selected cells to meet sample size requirements. 4. Estimate density class in target cells at other glades (Bloody Hill Hillside, Bloody Hill Road, Manley, North Bloody Hill, North Bloody Hill South, Northwest Bloody Hill, Terrell Creek, Walnut, Wire Road).
