Theodore Roosevelt Island is located in Washington, D.C. in the Potomac River between the Francis Scott Key and Arlington Memorial Bridges. Although Theodore Roosevelt Island is one of the most popular areas in the District of Columbia for observing nature, little is actually known of its natural history. The present study was undertaken to determine the geomorphology of the island and the development of vegetative types or habitats found on the island. This report is based on both field work and a study of the literature. Field work was carried on in 1962 and 1963. The references cited in this report should serve as a useful starting point for any further investigation of the area.
