Tens of thousands of shallow lakes are distributed across the Arctic Network. Although small, these ecosystems serve a diverse array of ecological functions ranging from fl ood protection, groundwater recharge, and water purifi cation to providing prime habitat to moose, waterfowl and furbearers.
