This report addresses one portion of the Adams Mansion, referred to here as the "1869 Addition" to distinguish it from other additions that were made to the 1731 house. This northwestern-most part was added by Charles Francis Adams in 1869, and he referred to this part of the house as "the addition." It was later know as the "Servants' Wing," "Laundry Wing," or "Service Wing;" these titles were created for interpretive purposes since the time that the house was open to the public. The report addresses structural rehabilitation and the work that was needed to preserve and improve the exterior and interior fabric of the house. The main objective was to preserve the structure and the fabric from deterioration, rather than to perform major restoration work. The report includes history, existing conditions, and recommendations. Illustrations are historic and time-of-publication photographs.
