Wrenn GL. 1966. Historic Structures Report: Part II (Portion), Architectural Data Section on Adams Mansion, 1730 House, Adams National Historic Site. Historic Structure Report. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service. Quincy, Massachusetts
This portion of the Part II, Architectural Data Section of the 1730 House, part of the Adams Mansion, is one section of the complete Historic Structures Report, Part II, Architectural Data Section. Other report sections are for the East Wing, the 1869 Addition, the Kitchen Wing, and the 1836 Passageway. The report includes a history and general description of the structure. Documentary evidence suggests that it was built by Leonard Vassall in 1730 and is a basic post and beam construction, common during the eighteenth century. The report notes changes, including remodeling done by Abigail Adams and Charles Francis Adams, that altered the floor coverings, wall paper, paint and finishes, and utilities. It also covers changes which have taken place in the surface fabric of the house since the end of the historic period, marked by the death of Brooks Adams in 1927.
