This report contains the architectural proposals for the reconstruction of the McLean House Kitchen that were outlined briefly in the Architectural Data Section, Part I of the Historic Structures Report (November 1963). The recommendations are described by area of work and shown on preliminary drawings. While many documentary photographs are included in this part of the report, it is noted that the information in the photographs is limited and therefore much of the architectural detailing is conjectural. The context of the original construction is also considered as part of the proposal. The outbuildings were originally built by Charles Raine as part of his tavern operations, and speculators such as Raine were often guided by practical or economic interests. The reconstruction of all three McLean House outbuildings (Kitchen, Slave Quarters, and Ice House), was programmed for 1964 to reduce the cost of construction; this report addresses the McLean House Kitchen.
