This report describes the restoration work to the exterior and interior of the Tavern Guest House (Building 4B). The Tavern Guest House was built as one of the dependencies to the Clover Hill Tavern by Alexander Patteson in ca. 1819. The structure provided a kitchen on the first floor and sleeping quarters on the upper floors. By the time of the Civil War, the first floor had served other purposes. When the Tavern property came until the jurisdiction of the NPS in 1940, it was in ruinous condition. In 1941, steps were taken through a CCC project to stabilize the structure, but no attempt was made toward restoration. In the summer of 1956, a team made measured drawings of the buildings that were scheduled to be restored to their appearance in 1865. This report outlines the restoration work performed to specific areas of the exterior and interior of the structure. Accompanying photos show the pre-restoration condition and progress.
