Historic Structure Report, Architectural Data Section, Pier 1 and Pier 2: Volume II, Addendum, Structural Engineering Reinvestigation and Reevaluation, Charlestown Navy Yard, Boston National Historical Park, Massachusetts

Childs Engineering Corporation and Jacobs S. 1983. Historic Structure Report, Architectural Data Section, Pier 1 and Pier 2: Volume II, Addendum, Structural Engineering Reinvestigation and Reevaluation, Charlestown Navy Yard, Boston National Historical Park, Massachusetts. Historic Structure Report. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service. Denver, Colorado

This report is an addendum to Volume II, Historic Structure Report, Architectural Data Section. It updates the existing conditions of Pier 2, originally documented in January of 1979, as of the spring of 1982. There is also a twenty-five sheet set of construction drawings with cost estimates. The existing condition field survey consisted of an engineer/diver team performing below-water observations and measurements and a topside engineer team performing above-water observations. The addendum notes that, although there has not been any major loss leading to alteration of pier dimensions or configuration, there has been a steady rate of accelerated deterioration among pier components. The 1982 update indicates that without restoration efforts, the pier will continue to deteriorate. Recommendations for restoration are provided.
