Antietam Aqueduct was the fourth such structure built by the Canal Company. It was designed and used for the purpose of carrying the canal and towing path across Antietam Creek, a tributary to the Potomac River. This administrative data section for the Historic Structures Report proposes to continue its historic use in the event of the rewatering of the canal at that location, to support the park trail (towpath), and to continue to serve as a focal point in interpretation. Proposed construction activity includes replacement of stones that have fallen from the structure and stabilization of the existing masonry. The summary is accompanied by the 1964 project construction proposal with quantities and cost estimates.
