The purpose of this historic data section of the Historic Structure Survey Report for Antietam Aqueduct is to assemble all of the documentary information pertaining to the construction of the aqueduct that carries the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal over Antietam Creek. It is recommended that the Antietam Aqueduct be restored to its historic condition and function. The report includes brief details about the site and information about the construction of the aqueduct, which was completed in slightly more than two years. A physical description of the aqueduct was reported in December 1833 by Captain William G. McNeill as the structure was still being built; that description is included here. Photographs document the condition of the aqueduct at the time of this report.
