This report contains information about the Archer Cottage at Colonial National Historical Park, providing an update on the studies that were completed, in progress, and not undertaken on the Archer Cottage and immediate surroundings. It is proposed that the structure be restored to its original form to interpret the section of the waterfront that was significant to the town and military history of Yorktown. The exterior of the structure is emphasized for presenting the waterfront scene. It was not planned to present it as a house exhibit, and it was proposed to adapt all levels for quarters/residential use. Detailed historical data is included in a separate report. Although the precise date and construction of the structure are not known, it rests on property that in 1788, and perhaps earlier, was in the hands of the Archer family. The existing house had stood in much the same general exterior shape since and during the Civil War. There is limited documentation prior to that time, however.
