This report section contains the architectural data for the Ballard House Historic Structures Report. It accompanied the recommendation for adaptive restoration of the house. The exterior was to be restored to its historic appearance, and the interior was to be used as a park staff residence. This is in accordance with the master plan for the Town of Yorktown. The report describes the architectural history of the house, including ownership and features. Although no documentary evidence exists concerning the building's evolution, the physical fabric shows several renovations. The first person to establish clear title to Lot 54 was Edward Fuller in 1706. The house is named for Captain John Ballard and his sons, who owned the lot and buildings from 1727 to 1761. The house had several subsequent owners until it was bought by the U.S. Government in 1968. The proposed treatment is adaptive restoration. Justification for this decision and alternative courses are presented. Photographs and costs estimates are also included.
